Causes I Care About
13th June 2025
Liam Cunningham said something on a podcast yesterday that hasn’t left my mind:
“This genocide is on 4K on your telly. And you’re not going to be able to say ‘I didn’t know.’ The only answer you’ll be able to give your kids is: ‘I didn’t care.’”
He was talking about Palestine. And he’s right. I couldn’t agree with Liam more.
There are a lot of causes I care deeply about. And while I’m still very new to this industry, I suspect traditional publishing places limits on what you can and can’t say. One of the reasons I chose to self-publish was for that freedom. Not just to choose my editor and illustrator, but to speak honestly about the things that matter most to me.
So I want to make a promise.
J.K. Rowling has used her millions to support anti-trans organisations and lobby for laws that harm queer people. I may only sell five copies of my book, but I want to use my platform for something better. Something kinder.
For every book I publish, I will donate 10 percent of my profits to causes I believe in: 2.5 percent to each of four organisations doing vital work in justice, protection, and care.
For Honeyed Myths, those organisations are:
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP)
The Trevor Project
Many Hopes
Save the Children (DRC)
If you’re curious about why I chose them, here’s a little more about them:
Many Hopes
Many Hopes is an incredible charity working in Ghana to prevent child trafficking and empower survivors, especially young girls. They provide access to education, safety, and real financial independence. One of their programs teaches beauty skills in a free school so girls can build a life of their own. That’s just one part of the work they do! 100 per cent of donations go directly to the mission.
The Trevor Project
Founded in 1998, The Trevor Project offers crisis support, suicide prevention, and peer mentorship to LGBTQ+ youth. In a world where companies slap rainbows on everything in June while funding politicians who hurt us, support like this is essential, and so close to my heart!
Save the Children – DRC
The humanitarian crisis in the Congo is one of the deadliest in modern history. Since the late 1990s, over 5.4 million people have died due to conflict, hunger, disease, and displacement. Today, over 25 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. And yet it rarely makes global headlines. I have to wonder: if these children were white and European, would the world care more?
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP)
MAP has been providing vital medical care in Palestine since 1982. Gaza now has the highest per capita rate of amputees in the world, with over 1,000 children losing limbs in the past year alone. Since October 2023, over 37,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 15,000 children, and many more remain trapped without access to food, water, or medicine.
If you care about human rights, please consider supporting this cause. No one deserves the cruelty that Palestinians have lived with for over 75 years.
In the future, I hope to write more books, reach more people, and give even more. But no matter how far I go, I will always use my platform to stand up for what I believe in.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for caring.
